MeitY’s Essential Requirements mandate for CCTV hardware, effective April 1, 2026, requires that all new surveillance devices sold in India meet specific cybersecurity standards. This mandate is designed to prevent surveillance hardware from becoming a vector for cyberattacks — a genuine risk with many legacy camera systems currently on the market. Enterprises procuring new hardware from April 2026 onwards will need ER-compliant devices regardless. Choosing compliant edge AI hardware at this inflection point is simply a more efficient use of the procurement decision than buying compliant hardware that still lacks AI capability.
